    Self Care Sunday

Today is the first Sunday in actual spring. (And Palm Sunday for some.) Unfortunately, it looks more like winter out. (I am thankful that the storm doesn’t seem as bad as they predicted. We’ll have to wait and see what the next couple of days bring.) I’ve spent a pleasant day relaxing at home. It was refreshing after the busy couple of weeks I’ve had. Yesterday was a pretty nice day out and as well as doing laundry and tidying up around the apartment I went to the Co-op and then to Target. I hadn’t really planned the Target trip but then I remembered that their Diane Von Furstenberg collaboration…

    Self Care Sunday

Happy St. Patrick’s Day. We’re getting close to the first day of Spring, but it felt more like winter today. It was cold and windy and there were even a few snowflakes. I actually broke out the scarf and warm gloves again. (Along with my warm coat and knit cap.) I felt a little out of place while out doing my shopping all bundled up like that while everyone else seemed to be wearing light jackets and hoodies. I even saw someone in shorts. (He may how come from working out at the gym that is in the same mall as the supermarket I was going to, but it still…

    self Care Sunday

It’s that time of year I hate. The day after Daylight Savings time begins. (I still don’t understand why Daylight Savings time is still a thing. It made sense when we were an agrarian society and when lots of kids were walking to and from school. Neither are the case now. They should just abolish the whole thing and keep time the same all year.) I always dislike losing an hour, and it takes a while to get used to it being lighter later. The only positives are that I can take outfit pictures more easily in the evening if necessary and I can go for walks later. Thankfully, this…

Self Care Sunday- Positive thinking and safeguarding your mental health

Don’t let anyone or anything to dull your sparkle.”  ― Pradeepa Pandiyan Self care can be more than taking care of your skin or your body. It also can be about taking care of your mental health and wellbeing. Today I want to talk about following your own path and not letting negativity affect you and bring you down.  I had a lesson in that today when I was told that a number of people still talk about me behind my back a lot. (Also, the fact that a few people still think I am transgender for some reason.) My initial reaction is to wonder what I’m doing wrong and what…

    Self Care Sunday

Welcome to Self care Sunday, a new weekly lifestyle post that deals with various ways you can take care of and show love to yourself. This can be as simple as having a favorite hot beverage and some good chocolate or as involved as an in home spa day. Whatever you do, it’s important to remember to take time for yourself and to indulge in some things you love and that bring you joy. Self care can also include watching a favorite movie or listening to music that puts you in a good mood. (At the end of this post I’ll include a playlist of music I’ve been enjoying when…

It’s not just Stanley Cups and collectibles

Reselling collectibles and other in demand items is nothing new. I’ve known for years (and been annoyed by) the fact that people buy up hot items like sneakers, game consoles, limited edition items and resell them at prices that are way higher than retail. What I didn’t know until now was that people were doing the same thing with inexpensive items like seasonal decor from the Bullseye’s Playground area at Target. That’s really a shame because there are some super cute items and this makes it hard for people to get them if they aren’t there right when things are put out. (I’m not talking about someone buying several of…

What is it with the lack of manners these days?

“Whatever happened to fair dealing? And pure ethicsAnd nice manners? Why is it everyone now is a pain in the ass?Whatever happened to class?” “Class”- Chicago Do you ever wonder why people behave like they do now? I have started thinking about this a lot recently. It seems like people are getting more comfortable leaving messes in their wake and less used to cleaning up after themselves. For example, every time I go down to lock our apartment building Community Room at night I end up having to push in a number of chairs that have been left out. I also often have to throw trash in the wastebasket or put papers…

    Bolder, Not Older

It seems fitting for my first post on my redesigned site to introduce the new tagline. I came across this phrase while doing a Google search about why brands seem to ignore women over 40. (More on that in a future post.) It resonated with me right away and really sums up how I want to live my life. Aging is inevitable. That doesn’t mean you have to fade away or become invisible. It also doesn’t mean you can’t have fun, and style, and enjoy what you always did. I like the idea of growing bolder as I age. (I also like the phrase “aging disgracefully”.), feeling more free to…
