Continuing my pinup journey
It’s June. One of my favorite months. Not only is it my birthday month, but there are a lot of fun events in my area. One that always gets my interest is the annual MSRA Back to The Fifties weekend. It’s a three day get together of street rod and classic car enthusiasts that takes place at the State Fairgrounds.
I always enjoy seeing all the classic cars driving around town that weekend. I’ve never actually gone to any of the events though. I’m thinking that might change this year. (Although the weather forecast is giving me pause. It won’t be too hot but I’m not thrilled about the possibility of walking around the fairgrounds in the rain.)
I also recently found out that they hold a pinup contest at this event. That definitely caught my eye. Then, I found out that I was too late for registration. That was a big disappointment. Although, after doing some reading about pinup contests and what they entail it might be a blessing in disguise. I can work on my persona and preparations and be ready for next year. (It still might be fun to watch the contest this year and see what it’s like.) I have been watching a few videos of other pinup contests on Youtube and it’s interesting to see how they work and the type of outfits participants choose. I’m also learning that stage presence is important (somewhat concerning for an introvert like me), and that its important to develop a persona or character.
Besides that, first thing I need to work on is my pinup name. I’ve been brainstorming these last couple of days and writing down ideas. Unfortunately, after googling some of my favorites I found they were already in use. It seems like it will be challenging to find something original. (Especially something original and that fits me.) It’s really disappointing when I think of something I like and then do a search and see it’s not available. It feels like all the good names are already taken. (I’m sure that’s not true, but it’s hard to avoid getting that impression.)
Once I settle on a name I then need to refine my persona. I know I’m influenced by Bettie Page and Dita Von Teese. I also really like rockabilly and psychobilly styles. The idea of being “The Geek Pinup” is interesting to me since I am a computer and tech geek and do computer support work. I still have a lot to work on. Thankfully, I do have time to do it.
