    Self Care Sunday

Happy St. Patrick’s Day. We’re getting close to the first day of Spring, but it felt more like winter today. It was cold and windy and there were even a few snowflakes. I actually broke out the scarf and warm gloves again. (Along with my warm coat and knit cap.) I felt a little out of place while out doing my shopping all bundled up like that while everyone else seemed to be wearing light jackets and hoodies. I even saw someone in shorts. (He may how come from working out at the gym that is in the same mall as the supermarket I was going to, but it still…

    My Pinup Style Journey

I have been interested in life in the 50s and 60s and vintage fashion for a long time. (I can’t remember when my interest first started but I remember reading vintage beauty books as a teen and young adult and having an interest in antiques and midcentury dishes and furnishings at that same time. I’ve also had a long time admiration for the style of Bettie Page and Dita Von Teese. I didn’t start dressing in the pinup style until 2019. (I did wear some vintage elements before that though. Things like high waisted trousers and pencil skirts and I’ve long loved red lipstick and nail polish.) Here are several pictures…

    Self Care Sunday

Welcome to Self care Sunday, a new weekly lifestyle post that deals with various ways you can take care of and show love to yourself. This can be as simple as having a favorite hot beverage and some good chocolate or as involved as an in home spa day. Whatever you do, it’s important to remember to take time for yourself and to indulge in some things you love and that bring you joy. Self care can also include watching a favorite movie or listening to music that puts you in a good mood. (At the end of this post I’ll include a playlist of music I’ve been enjoying when…

    Wearing white after Labor Day

Since it’s Labor Day weekend I’ve been wondering if anyone still follows the rule of not wearing white before Memorial Day and after Labor Day. I know I usually don’t. At least strictly. I don’t start using my white purses or wearing white sandals before then but I do wear white skirts and dresses. I also still wear dresses with white in them and white jewelry after Labor Day. I usually don’t wear all white outfits though, or carry a totally white purse. Do fashion rules like this matter anymore? Did they ever really matter? I’ve always liked making my own rules. Even back in the 90s I’d wear white…

    Barbie Dreams

Like a lot of other people, I also got caught up in the hype for the Barbie movie this summer. This post will show some of the themed things I bought. (Another post will show fashion and jewelry items.) The hype for the movie also made me pull out the Beautiful Bride Tracy and Malibu Skipper dolls I still had from my childhood, and start a small collection of current Barbie dolls. Here is a picture of me with the Tracy doll as a child. (This was in 1982 or 1983) I was surprised at what good condition my two dolls were in considering I had gotten them originally in…

    Are Women Over 40 Invisible?

This is something that has been on my mind for some time. It seems like brands, especially makeup and skincare brands are mainly focused on people in their 20s and early 30s. Women over 40 might as well not exist.  This includes subscription boxes and services like Influenster. It’s frustrating to see people posting about all the Voxboxes they get, Voxboxes with products I use or would like to use, and to never get offered any myself. Do companies think women over 40 don’t wear makeup or fragrance? Do they think we don’t go anywhere or have money to spend? Do services like Ipsy think people over 40 only want…

    Pretty in Pink

I’m going to try and post outfit of the day and makeup of the day posts regularly. I thought a good place to start would be with this Barbiecore inspired look. I love pink, and wearing it always makes me feel good. I am wearing the Maneater dress in hot pink from Vixen by Micheline Pitt. Shoes are by Sofft. Headband, bracelets, and gloves are from amazon.com. Necklace is thrifted. Earrings are from Unique Vintage. Here is another view of the look, this time with a beret also from Vixen. Here is the dress worn in warmer weather. I am wearing a Powderpuff top from Vixen under the dress. Shoes…

Lamenting the lack of dressing up

What is happening to society and it’s standards?  I wonder about this every time I go somewhere where dressing up would generally be expected and see what a lot of people are wearing. Shorts and flip flops at museums. Jeans or shorts at the theater. Is nothing special anymore? I remember when I was a little girl and going downtown to shop was something special and you wouldn’t just wear any old clothes to go. I also remember when “Sunday best” was still a thing.  It makes me sad to think that we as a society may have gotten to a point where everything is mundane and nothing is worth…

    Lots To Unpack

This somewhat goes along with my post from several days ago about manners. As I was walking to the train after finishing at the grocery store today, I passed a group of three people. One of them asked me if I was trans. I said no and continued on my way to the train. (They also asked me for money and got a little shirty when I said I didn’t have any.) I was dressed in my usual style- dress with petticoat under it, tights, boots (today, Roxy ankle boots), beret hat and my warm jacket.  I also want to add that I have nothing but support for trans individuals…
